Oscar grew up with an other fellow Grouch Felix, who got along in their childhood due to their love of trash. Oscar was born on June 1, 1939, to Pop and Oscarina Grouch in the suburbs of Grouch Land. In the Japanese dub from the series, he was voiced by Tōru Ōkawa.
Like Big Bird, he was portrayed by the late Caroll Spinney, the late Jim Henson and currently performed by Eric Jacobson.
He is the main antagonist from 1969 to 1990, one of the supporting characters from 1991 to 2005 and one of the main protagonists from 2006 to present. He always lives up to the species he is, a grouch, who is miserable, argumentative, unhygienic, rude, and just plain grouchy.
